Powering Scotland's Future: Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm

Inch Cape offshore wind farm located off the Angus Coast will contribute towards the UK’s offshore wind goals and will generate enough green energy to power the equivalent of half of Scotland's homes.

Supporting successful financial close

Ramboll’s team of Due Diligence and Analysis experts (then still part of K2 Management which was acquired by Ramboll in 2024), supported Inch Cape Offshore Wind Farm, one of Scotland’s largest wind farms, in achieving successful financial close. The project secured a £3.5 billion financing package from a consortium of 22 banks, enabling progression with offshore construction.

As the appointed Lender’s Technical Adviser (LTA), Ramboll provided comprehensive support through detailed technical due diligence and a thorough bankability assessment. These efforts helped de-risk the financing decision, ensuring a robust and independent evaluation of the project’s key financial and technical performance factors from the early stages of development to financial close.

Cutting-edge design techniques

Furthermore, Ramboll’s engineering team has been responsible for preliminary feasibility and conceptual studies as well as FEED and detailed design of the jacket foundations and pin piles for a number of the wind turbines as well as follow-on engineering services.

Inch Cape has presented a unique opportunity for Ramboll to bring forward key recent advances in foundation design. Our engineering team is developing a design with the lowest possible weights without compromising on fabrication and installation or operation and safety. We are committed to utilizing cutting-edge design techniques, which are consistently refined through numerous comprehensive design projects and have received global certification body endorsements. Ramboll prides itself on its dynamic collaboration with leading fabricators, suppliers, and transport and installation (T&I) contractors, integrating insights from thorough project monitoring. Moreover, Ramboll is set to capitalize on regional networks to effectively connect with the local industry.

Ramboll will utilise advancement in foundation design for deep water sites and complex geological features obtained from our vast catalogue of nearby wind farm projects to deliver the substructure designs for the Inch Cape wind farm. Consisting primarily of UK based staff, the design team will reach out to discipline experts from across the organisation to provide state of the art design solutions.
