K2 Management appointed as owner's engineer on US Wind's MarWin offshore wind project

Owner’s engineer role secured on Maryland’s largest offshore wind project

K2 Management has been appointed owner’s engineer on what will be the largest project off the coast of Maryland in the United States – Maryland Offshore Wind Project – on behalf of developer, US Wind.

The scope on the circa. 270MW project will see K2 Management supporting US Wind with project management during the development phase of the project. The scope also includes design and engineering and package management, including tender and negotiation support.

Jeff Grybowski, CEO at US Wind, commented: “US Wind has big plans to deliver offshore wind to Maryland, contributing to the long-term economic growth of the state with employment opportunities and local investments. We appointed K2 Management as owner’s engineer on our flagship MarWin project to elevate the technical capabilities on what will be Maryland’s largest offshore wind project.”

President, Americas at K2 Management, Lars Andersen, said: “K2 Management understands what it takes to deliver complex offshore wind projects – from navigating technical challenges to driving financial optimization – and this expertise underpins our work in the US offshore wind market.”

“In entering this partnership with US Wind, K2 Management brings years of offshore wind technical expertise and experience from the global offshore industry to one of the first offshore projects in the Mid-Atlantic region.”

The MarWin project is expected to be commissioned in 2024 and will help the state of Maryland meet its mandate of securing 1,200MW of offshore wind by 2030. Once fully developed, US Wind's 85,000-acre lease area can support up to 1.5GW of offshore wind capacity.
