Charting the Course for Taean: Navigating the Development of South Korean Offshore Wind Farm

2026

completion date

Selected as owner's engineer

We were selected as the Owner’s Engineer and design partner for the 504 MW Taean Offshore Wind Farm in South Korea.

South Korea faces significant challenges in developing onshore wind and solar power due to its unique climatological and topographical conditions. Offshore wind, however, presents a viable and promising solution to reduce the nation’s dependency on imported fossil fuels. The Taean Offshore Wind Farm, with a capacity of 504 MW, is a critical project in this transition, contributing to the country's decarbonization targets and supporting the creation of sustainable, green jobs for local communities.

The project is scheduled to begin construction in July 2023, with an expected completion date in 2026. Once operational, the wind farm will play a pivotal role in South Korea's clean energy landscape.

K2 Management, in partnership with Dohwa Engineering, has been entrusted with a comprehensive scope of work for the Taean Offshore Wind Farm. Our responsibilities included design and engineering, Energy Yield Assessment (EYA), and tender and permitting management.

Sung-Won Jung, Country Director at K2 Management Korea said: “Offshore wind represents a significant opportunity for South Korea to meet its clean energy targets and provide sustainable, green jobs for local people. We are proud to have been selected as owner’s engineer for this project and are looking forward to supporting the project’s realisation.”

Chan Seong Park, General Director, Sung-Wook Park, Managing Director and Gyu Young Kang, Project Manager in Dohwa said: “K2 Management supported comprehensive technical aspects during the preliminary feasibility study phase. The collaboration of technical expertise between K2 Management and Dohwa has been central to the successful progression of Taean Offshore Wind Farm to date. Dohwa and K2 Management have worked together with stakeholders since project conception and are delighted to be asked to continue to collaborate as the project moves into the next stage.”

“We were pleased to see that the feasibility study led by K2M and Dohwa demonstrated the enormous potential of the project, and can now confirm that the design and permitting process is underway. We look forward to extending our relationship to cover project design and owner’s engineer services.”
